Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) has successfully secured $11.35 million for the Georgia Ports Authority’s construction phase of the Brunswick Harbor Modifications project. This funding is part of the Fiscal Year 2024 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. The project aims to modify the existing federal navigation channel at the Port of Brunswick, with plans including a bend widener, turning basin expansion, and meeting area at St. Simons Sound. It is estimated to contribute an annual economic output of $2.3 million nationwide.

"The Port of Brunswick is one of the busiest in the nation. As our district continues to grow, it’s important that our ports can safely handle the increase in demand. We are proud to have the Georgia Ports Authority as a First District partner and are excited to expand its operations so it can continue providing jobs, opportunity, and growth, not just for our region, but for the entire country," said Rep. Carter.

Griff Lynch, president and CEO of the Georgia Ports Authority, expressed gratitude, stating, "I would like to thank our Congressional delegation for their strong support of these maintenance dredging and harbor improvement projects. This much-needed funding will not only help ensure the safe passage of vessels, but also safeguard the valuable economic impact and competitiveness Georgia’s ports deliver for our state and nation."
