House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Chair Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-GA) expressed concerns at a hearing regarding the EPA's RMP Rule. The rule was examined for its impact on American manufacturing and potential risks associated with stringent regulations.

“The RMP rule will affect producers of critical materials necessary for an innovative and prosperous American economy."

Carter warned that the EPA's regulatory approach could hinder the production and supply of essential materials, leading to economic challenges.

“Owners and operators invest millions of dollars into their facilities to ensure they operate safely and at maximum efficiency with proper controls."

He emphasized the significant investments made by industrial sectors to maintain safety standards within their facilities.

“In taking this step, the Biden EPA is disregarding the purpose of the statute and pursuing a 'zero-risk' program."

Carter criticized the EPA for potentially imposing unrealistic expectations on industrial facilities, aiming for a risk-free environment.

“We drive cars to work, cross streets to get where we need to go, and take pharmaceuticals that may have potential side effects."

The subcommittee chair highlighted the importance of balancing risks and benefits in various everyday activities, including industrial production.

“Today, we will explore the RMP rule to learn how it could impair the ability of American businesses to compete in the global marketplace and provide items we all benefit from."

The hearing aimed to analyze the implications of the RMP Rule on American businesses' competitiveness and the challenges they face in complying with regulatory demands.
